Leader in activated carbon use and reuse
Activated carbon is essential to air and water purification. Its inherent high micro porosity makes it capable of adsorbing large amounts of organic compounds. These adsorption properties make it a key element in spill cleanup, ground and waste water remediation, drinking water purification, soil purification, and vapor and odor removal.
Through its reactivation processes, Biosphere Carbon Group produces both liquid and vapor phase carbon products for use in commercial, industrial and environmental remediation. These carbon products are produced through an environmentally friendly process called pyrolysis that can provide green credits for the user.
Reactivation/Beneficial Re-Use
The number one mission of Biopshere Carbon Group is to reactivate spent carbon and make it available for re-use. By reactivating spent carbon, the volatile compounds it has adsorbed are removed completely from the environment.
Reactivation of carbon also means that the spent carbon is not being sent to a landfill where it can leach those compounds into the soil or release them into the air. When spent carbon is reactivated, new carbon to replace it does not need to be created, saving our natural resources.
The reactivated carbon can be returned to the original user and placed back into service. Alternatively, it can be processed for use in other applications.
Re-activated Carbon Products
The spent carbon that arrives at our reactivation facility is carefully logged in and categorized. It is then processed under carefully controlled temperatures to achieve full desorption of any and all organic compounds it contains. Once these compounds are desorbed, they are captured in a gas like state and destructed. The cleaned carbon moves through the remainder of the process which reactivates, sorts, screens and tests it before it is bagged, weighed and shipped back to our customers for reuse.
Our reactivation process itself is environmentally friendly – we don’t use chemicals to remove chemicals. The reactivation is achieved through the use of heat and steam and is a truly “green” option for disposing of spent carbon.
Activated Carbon Technologies
Biosphere Carbon reactivates spent carbon using proprietary pyrolysis technologies & processes . Our system takes problem wastes, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and produces renewable energy in the process. The solid waste left behind is a sterile, non-leachable form of carbon char that can be used in:
- Filter media
- Soil amendments
- Biomass
- Solid fuels (briquettes)
- Energy pellets
- Process steam
- Production of green electricity for sale to the grid
- Inks and coatings
- Rubber and plastic manufacturing
This results in reduced transportation of waste products, lower energy costs, and savings on packaging and disposal.
